The upgrade is free based on an existing, active subscription. If you are using Bitdefender 2014 or Bitdefender 2015 (which used license keys for registration and activation), the key will be automatically transformed into a Bitdefender 2017 subscription (and placed in your Bitdefender Central account). This way, Bitdefender 2017 will be fully active at the end of the installation, without you performing any other registration steps.
