What if there's a drug that already exists that could treat a disease with no known therapies, but we just haven't made the connection? Finding that connection by exhaustively analyzing complex biomechanics within the body — with the help of machine learning, naturally — is the goal of ReviveMed, a new biotech startup out of MIT that just raised $1.5 million in seed funding.

Stripe’s AI fraud detector is crazy smart

I’m loath to use the term, but Stripe is a revolutionary product. It allows pretty much anyone to accept card payments just by adding a few lines of code to their site, without having to deal with the hassle of compliance and security. As you might expect, Stripe has gotten really good at identifying legitimate transactions from ones that aren’t exactly kosher. Now, it’s bundled its experience into a new product it’s calling Radar 2.0, which allows large businesses to take their fraud protections into their own hands. A component of Radar 2.0, called Radar for Fraud Teams, is aimed…

Army Research Laboratory (ARL) scientists Benjamin S. Riggan, Nathaniel J. Short, and Shuowen Hu recently released a white paper detailing military efforts to develop a method for applying facial recognition technology to images taken using thermal imaging devices. According to Riggan: When using thermal cameras to capture facial imagery, the main…

Verge coin’s own Twitter account is not verified but its imposter’s is

It seems Twitter is incapable of putting an end to the rampant cryptocurrency scams on its platforms. Just last week, we reported on Twitter’s ‘blue badge’ profile scams in the cryptocurrency space that have been going on unchecked for two months at least. Now, we’ve discovered that while Verge currency’s official Twitter account itself is unverified, there’s an imposter prowling around with a verified Twitter handle in its name. The problem with Twitter verified profiles is that the account only loses the verified status when the username is changed — the account holders can still change their name and remain verified.…
