Ripple is giving universities $50M to research cryptocurrency and blockchain


After donating $29 million to an American public school charity, cryptocurrency giant Ripple is launching another $50 million fund — this time for universities. The new initiative, named University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), will provide $50 million in funding to universities for academic research and initiatives related to blockchain, cryptocurrency, and digital payments, the company announced on its blog today. It’s official: Microsoft has acquired GitHub for $7.5 billion


After much speculation, Microsoft has confirmed its acquisition of the social coding platform Github in an all-stock deal worth $7.5 billion. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of the year, subject to regulatory approval. As part of the purchase, Microsoft is installing a new CEO. Former Xamarin chief Nat Friedman will replace the outgoing GitHub CEO and co-founder, Chris Wanstrath. Microsoft says that Wandstrath will join the company as a technical fellow.
